Kerry Katona blames her 'downfall' on lack of father figure

Kerry Katona surprised viewers today on This Morning when she introduced the world to her long-lost brother Jason.

The 38-year-old former Atomic Kitten singer and 2004 I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winner also said she blamed her ‘downfall’ on her lack of a father-figure growing up.

“It was really complicated, I used to think ‘who is my dad?’ My downfall has been not having the that father figure and attachment in my life. The marriages, the whole lot!” Katona said.

Katona says she only met her dad once, when she was just two-months old.

Jason explained that when his father Ron Armstrong died in 2009, he discovered that he had a famous sister.

“When my dad died it came out that Kerry was my half-sister. I just left it for awhile. I let it all die down and settle. I have my own kids.

“On New Year’s day 2011 I text her, ‘Hi Kez hope you don’t mind I’m a big brother!’ Straight away she text back and we text constantly,” he said.

The siblings also confessed that despite them texting for the last nine years, this was only the second time they had ever met.

They said that they hadn’t spent much time together yet because they both ‘had their own issues’ to sort out and that Katona had been ‘chock-a-block busy.’

Katona has been married three times. First to husband and Westlife member Brian McFadden, whom she had two daughters with.

Married from 2002-2006, she then married cab driver Mark Croft in 2007 and they had a son and a daughter together.

By 2011 she had divorced Croft and married rugby player George Kay in 2014. They had one child, a daughter, together and she was served divorce papers by Kay in 2017.

Katona has spoken openly about her battle with substance abuse and suffering from bipolar disorder.

The singer who declared bankruptcy in 2013, also gained headlines this week after revealing in her New! Magazine column that she would ‘pop another kid out’ in order to land a new reality show.

“Spencer and Vogue, Jack and Dani – everyone on the planet seems to have a reality show these days and I’m jealous!

“What could be better than a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a middle-aged woman who’s scared of growing old, has addiction problems, has suffered psychotic breakdowns and has five kids by three men? It would be a smash hit!

“What have I got to do to get another show? Pop another kid out?” she wrote.

Katona had a career resurgence in 2004 when she won I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! and went on to star in several MTV reality shows including Crazy in Love that chronicled her relationship with Mark Croft.
