Kerry Katona has admitted she still feels “guilt” in relation to her ex George Kay’s death.

The Atomic Kitten star’s estranged husband died of an accidental drugs overdose aged 39 in July. Due to a restraining order he had not seen his five-year-old daughrer Dylan-Jorge, known as DJ, for a year before he died.

Katona wiped away tears as she told ITV’s Loose Women: “Yes, I feel guilty that DJ didn’t see her dad for a year, of course I do.”

She went on: “I’d hand her over to George and fear I was not going to get her back... I knew I was doing the best thing for DJ but of course I feel guilt.

“Like any decent mother or father you would not want your child to be around somebody who was abusing drugs.”

Kay had a history of drug abuse and mental health issues. He was arrested for assaulting Katona in 2015 and they had been separated since 2017.

Katona, 39, is now dating fitness instructor Ryan Mahoney. She was married twice before and has four other children - daughters, Molly, 17, and Lilly-Sue, 16, by first husband, Westlife’s Brian McFadden, a daughter Heidi, 12, and 11-year-old son Max by second husband Mark Croft.

The reality TV star said: “The kids are doing really well. It was the hardest conversation I ever had to have with a five-year-old.”

Katona thanked Mahoney for his help and support.

Revealing she has been clean for 10 years she said: “I’ve been with him for a very long time, it’s been over a year. Normally by now I would be engaged, pregnant and divorced. But we’re doing okay. He’s got a job, he gets up in the morning and goes to work.

“If I’m sad, he’s saying ‘I’m sorry you feel like that’ and ‘You deserve better’. That’s been a massive help.”
