Former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona has made the shocking claim that her own mother got her addicted to drugs when she was just 14 years old.

Speaking at the Hygrove Rehabilitation Centre about her battle with addiction, Kerry, 37, shared a live broadcast on her Instagram account, saying how it was her own mum that got her hooked on speed as a teenager.

‘I know my mum’s watching. I’m very proud of my mum and who she is today but my addiction started back when I was 14,’ she began.

‘I was in a foster home and I was only allowed to see my mum via supervised visits. I’m the only child.

‘I went down to the pub on a Sunday, as one does from being up North, and I remember my mum going to the pub, she was with a woman at the time. My mum became a brief lesbian.

‘And I walked into the toilet, I was 14, and she had this bag of white powder,’ the star revealed.

Kerry recalled the moment she first came into contact with drugs and how her mother encouraged her: ‘I said, “Mum, what’s that?” She said, “It’s sherbet”.’ She then acted out her mum dipping a finger into a bag and then putting it into the singer’s mouth.

She went on to say that ‘so many people are scared of talking out’ and that far too many ‘suffer in silence’ when they should be seeking help.

Since then, Kerry claims they’ve both turned their lives around and no longer use drugs.

‘Don’t ever feel ashamed, don’t feel embarrassed. I’ve been there. I’m very open, I’m very honest,’ is her advice to people watching who may have a drug addiction.

Kerry also revealed that when she was married to Westlife’s Bryan McFadden she stopped using drugs altogether, but when they split up in 2004 she went straight back to them: ‘Unfortunately the w**ker left me… I’m joking, we’re on good terms… and that meant I had to move back over to England but, me going back from where I started from, you lie down with dogs, you’re going to get fleas.’

Back in 2004, she won I’m A Celeb, becoming the first ever Queen of the Jungle, and recalls how her life spiralled afterwards: ‘I think for me, after the jungle, my fame became so high, and being married to someone in Westlife and, when I did go over to England, all my friends around that time, they were all into the drugs.’
