Kevin De Bruyne will be out for three months due to a knee injury but will not require surgery, Manchester City have announced.

The 27-year-old was hurt during a training session on Wednesday, and tests have revealed the midfielder will not require surgery but is likely to be sidelined until mid-November.

A statement from the Premier League champions read: "Manchester City can confirm Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) lesion in his right knee.

"No surgery is required, and the midfielder is expected to be out for around three months. Everyone at City wishes him a speedy return to action."

Three months on the sidelines would seemingly rule the Belgian out of Premier League fixtures with Liverpool and Tottenham, which he will also miss the opening matches of the Champions League group stages.

De Bruyne will also be in a race to feature in the Manchester derby against United at the Etihad on November 11.

In 2016, De Bruyne missed 12 matches with a similar injury.
