Kevin De Bruyne injury update and Savinho latest ahead of Man City vs Arsenal

Pep Guardiola did not know if Kevin De Bruyne would be fit to face Arsenal - but suggested he was ready to take him off even before he was injured.

De Bruyne appeared to suffer a problem in the closing moments of the first half and did not appear for the second, with Phil Foden taking his place. Savinho was also substituted at that point, with Ilkay Gundogan coming on the pitch.

Savinho has had a number of issues since joining the club in summer from Troyes in a £21m deal; he came off at half-time in the opening Premier League game at Chelsea, missed the trip to West Ham with a knee injury, appeared to come off with a problem in the closing moments of the Brentford game and then was taken off at half-time against Inter. De Bruyne was making his fifth consecutive start for the Blues following his role in their four Premier League games, and also played twice for Belgium over the international break.

Guardiola was told by the doctors about De Bruyne before the second half, although hadn't spoken about the extent of the injury before arriving at the press conference. However, he suggested that both substitutions were tactical.

"I didn't speak with the doctors yet. I will have more info tomorrow," he said. "Against a team that defended 5-3-2 and five players went to one side, they could not make contact with Rodri and you have to turn the ball quick and we needed players special for small spaces. Rico [Lewis], Phil and Gundo are the best in the pockets, in the small spaces. Phil turned and shot and Gundo was there for the two crosses.

"The way they defend, I was thinking after 35 minutes that I wanted to make this substitution. After the doctor said to me that Kevin was not ready to play but I was ready to make this substitution anyway."

Arsenal will be missing Martin Odegaard for Sunday's game following the ankle injury he picked up for Norway. Declan Rice is available though after serving his one-match suspension against Spurs.
