Kevin Costner's Western Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 has proved to be a success on Netflix following its underperformance at the box office.
The epic Western — the first instalment of an intended four-part saga — follows the lives of various characters in Midwestern America as the Civil War rages on. The stacked cast also includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi and Danny Huston.
Following its release in June, the film (which was shot back-to-back with the second instalment) proved to be a failure at the box office, grossing only $38.2 million against a reported budget of $50 million.

Despite its commercial underperformance upon its theatrical release, the film has found a new lease of life on Netflix where it's charted in the top 10 of the streamer’s global rankings for the past week — despite only being available to US subscribers.
The 4 million streams have the film in seventh place, behind entries such as Carry-On in top spot with 17.4 million streams and The Six Triple Eight in second place with 10.8 million views.
The relative success on the streamer could give the saga a new lease of life following its prior underperformance, which resulted in the second chapter being pulled from the schedule just a month before it was due to be released in August.

“The audience response to Horizon, and enthusiasm for seeing our story continue in Horizon 2, has been incredibly gratifying,” said a spokesperson for Costner's production company, Territory Pictures. “Kevin made this film for people who love movies and who wanted to go on a journey.
“The support that we have received from film fans, and the theatre owners, as they experience the first chapter of this saga, only serves to reinforce our belief in them and the films that we have made, and we thank them for coming on board for the ride," they added.
"We welcome the opportunity for that window to be expanded, as we know it will only serve to enhance the experience of seeing Horizon 2.”
