Kevin Durant is executive producer on new Apple TV+ series about youth basketball

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is the latest athlete to enter the world of television. Durant teased a new Apple TV+ show titled "Swagger!" on Thursday. The program is a drama that will focus on youth basketball.

Durant tweeted out a trailer for the series, which debuts Oct. 29. The show will cover more than just youth basketball and the pressures placed on athletes. Portions of the trailer touch on racial and social injustice and the COVID-19 pandemic. The trailer doesn't specifically mention the pandemic by name, but characters can be seen wearing masks in the teaser.

The show isn't explicitly about Durant's experience in youth basketball. It's not meant to be an autobiographical story from Durant. It's possible the program will borrow from Durant's experiences, though.

Getting involved in media isn't a new thing for Durant. He had a show — "The Boardroom" — at ESPN for two seasons.

Durant is far from the first athlete to take his career in that direction. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has "The Shop," and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is getting his own program on Netflix.

The trailer for Durant's show looks promising. Apple TV already has a sports hit in "Ted Lasso," and "Swagger!" is made by some of the people who worked on "Friday Night Lights." Those two factors should be enough to get people interested in the project.
