It's hard to believe now, but there was a time when Marvel didn't rule the world of cinema.

Hollywood didn't take the comics giant seriously, and if you've seen the '90s Captain America, David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD or Roger Corman's unreleased Fantastic Four, you'd know why.

But one film made people start to pay attention, and that was... Blade.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has been talking about the film and its impact to JoBlo.

He said: "My tenure at Marvel started 17 years ago, and there were two things that sort of launched the modern era.

"One was X-Men, which was the first thing that people said, 'Oh, there's life here'. But a few years before that, there was Blade – a character nobody had heard of at all, had only appeared in a few issues of Tomb of Dracula or something, turned into a big franchise.

"That was always a great lesson for me, where you go, 'It doesn't matter how well known the character is, it matters how cool the movie is'. Which, many years later, would be the reason we do Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange.

"I think Blade is a legacy character now, and I think it would be fun to do something with him one day."

One equally important thing Feige didn't mention was the much-derided Blade: Trinity giving us Ryan Reynolds, the star of the best superhero film of all time... Green Lantern.

Deadpool wasn't bad either, we guess.

The next Marvel film coming out is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which comes out July 5 in the UK and July 7 in the US. Watch a trailer below:
