Kevin Spacey sex assault trial in London set for end of June

Kevin Spacey will stand trial at the end of June over 12 allegations of sexual offences against men across two decades, a court has heard.

The Oscar-winning Hollywood star, 63, appeared via videolink at Southwark crown court on Friday morning for a 10 minute hearing in front of Mr Justice Wall.

The actor’s criminal trial had originally been set for June 6, but the court heard the start date has now been delayed until June 28, in a case that is set to last up to four weeks.

Spacey, wearing a dark-coloured suit, spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing, and listened intently as pre-trial matters were discussed between his barrister Patrick Gibbs KC, prosecutor Christine Agnew KC, and the judge.

He has already pleaded not guilty to 12 charges, dating between 2001 and 2015, relating to alleged sexual activity with four men.

The alleged victims, now in their 30s and 40s, say Spacey carried out indecent assaults, forced them into sexual activity without their consent, and in one case forced a man to touch him intimately over clothing.

In total, the former House of Cards and Usual Suspects star is accused of three counts of indecent assault, seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, and one allegation of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.

Spacey, who appears in court under his full name Kevin Spacey Fowler, remains on unconditional bail until the start of his trial.

The judge told him this morning he could attended a further pre-trial hearing, which may be held at the end of May or start of June, via videolink.

But he added: “You are required to attend in person for the trial.”

Spacey, who has an apartment in London, was formely the Artistic Director at the Old Vic theatre between 2003 and 2015.
