Kevin Thelwell believes the signing of Chelsea forward Armando Broja will strengthen Everton's options in attack - as he revealed his delight at sealing a deal for the 22-year-old late on transfer deadline day.

Broja completed a season-long loan move to Goodison Park in the early hours of Saturday after a move to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town fell through.

However, he is not expected to debut for the Blues until October as he's currently sidelined with a foot injury. But Everton inserted a clause into the deal to ensure they will not pay for the forward's services until he is available for selection.

That, though, hasn't dampened the spirits of sporting director Thelwell, who believes the forward has bags of potential to be unlocked after struggling for game time at Chelsea in recent seasons.

"Having monitored Armando's journey for a number of years, we're very pleased to have been able to bring him to the club," said Thelwell. "Armando is still a young player who has already built up some impressive experience but someone we also feel has lots more potential to be unlocked.

"First and foremost, we will work with him to get him fit as soon as possible. Then, his addition will strengthen our options in the attacking department."

Broja, who is contracted with Chelsea until 2028, was Everton's second deadline-day signing after the arrival of Orel Mangala from Lyon.
