Kick It Out chair Lord Herman Ouseley is set to urge football’s powerbrokers to take greater steps in tackling inequality as the organisation prepares to mark its 25th year.

The campaigners are holding a reception at Wembley on Monday to mark the milestone, with FA chairman Greg Clarke among those in attendance.

Ouseley will say: “When tackling institutional inertia, it is critical to challenge timid, irresponsible leadership on issues such as equality and exclusion. It remains a truism that if the powerful decision makers in the game want to end exclusion, inequality and divisiveness in the game, they can make it happen.

“That is a reality and is a simple but straightforward explanation about why progress has been so tediously slow. Next season, it is planned that football, from grassroots through to elite level, should reflect on what it has done over the previous 25 years, what it is currently doing and what is still has to do.”
