Kilburn shooting: Young woman shot dead 'by gun-wielding gang riding bikes as she chatted with friends'

Residents have described hearing four shots ring out followed by screams as a gun-wielding gang on bikes shot dead a young woman as she stood chatting to friends.

The 20-year-old suffered gunshot wounds when bullets were fired at the group in Kilburn on Friday evening.

Neighbours ran out to help the stricken woman as the attackers scattered away from the scene.

Paramedics arrived in Blake Court near Malvern Road just before 9pm, and battled to save her life but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

One resident said she heard four shots and saw a group of youths riding bikes speeding away from the estate.

She told the Standard: “A lot of people I know actually heard the shots from inside their houses but never came out.

“They just called 999 from inside not aware that this girl had been shot.”

She said: “The paramedics were helping her a lot.

“The whole estate came out once people started screaming.

“Her friends were crying, it was so hectic.”

“It is horrible and there is nothing we can do to change it,” she said.

“Now apparently police know who did it. It’s just catching them before a full on war starts up.”

Footage taken at the scene and posted on Facebook showed police surrounding the stricken woman while shocked residents and friends looked on.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at 8.54pm on Friday, 26 May, to a woman shot in the area of Malvern Road.

“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a 20-year-old woman suffering from gunshot injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 9.34pm.

“At this early stage detectives believe that the victim who was standing with a group of individuals in the Malvern Road area was approached by a number of suspects possibly on pedal cycles.

"A firearm was discharged towards the group and the victim was shot. The suspects made off from the scene.

“Enquires are ongoing to establish the number of suspects believed to have been involved."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called just after 8.55pm to reports of a shooting on Malvern Road.

“We sent a number of staff to the scene, including an ambulance crew, two responders in cars and a medical team from London’s Air Ambulance also in a car.

“Sadly, despite attempts to resuscitate her the female patient was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating but there have been no arrests so far.
