Killed In Their Sleep: Huge Overnight Earthquake Rocks Italy, Killing More Than 120 People

These devastating images reveal the depth of destruction of a powerful earthquake which has killed at least 120 people including young children overnight in Central Italy.

The merciless quake measuring 6.2-magnitude, hit the epicenter of Norcia in Umbria, at 3.30am local time, but the force of the shake could be felt as far as 100 miles away - with buildings in Rome rocking from their foundations.

Survivors of the tragedy are describing the aftermath of neighboring towns - including the city of Perugia - which is popular with British tourists, as ‘apocalyptic’.

Many are feared to be suffocating under the collapsed buildings, as rescue teams report ‘hearing voices from below the ruins’.

Some of the hardest-hit towns were reported as Amatrice, Accumoli and Norcia, with falling bridges and landslides meaning some areas are still cut off from rescue efforts.
