They have callously taken the lives of others after getting behind the wheel of their cars, with little thought to the consequences. Dangerous and careless drivers across the Midlands have robbed others of their lives, causing misery to families.

Some have been caught speeding, brazenly flouting the speeds limits. While others have been careless behind the wheel. Culprits have ended up behind bars for their driving.

Some are serving lengthy prison terms after being convicted of their crimes.

Dhiya Al Maamoury

Ex-Iraqi military man Dhiya Al Maamoury killed Ben Corfield, 19, and Liberty Charris, 16, when he lost control of his modified Nissan Skyline in the Black Country. The 56-year-old was one of many drivers who had responded to calls to join an illegal car meet.

Ben and Liberty's friends Ebonie Parkes and Ethan Kilburn were also seriously injured but survived. The fatal crash took place on the A457 Oldbury Road near the junction with Crystal Drive.

Hundreds of spectators lined the streets to see drivers 'showing off' their cars. Al Maamoury 'revved' his car's engine so much the Japanese import was seen 'spitting fire' before the collision.

The dad, from Solihull, was driving almost 20mph over the speed limit - and already had points on his licence for speeding. He was jailed for 13 years and six months on Friday, November 8.

He admitted two counts of causing deaths by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Click here to read the full story from court.

Nirvair Lall

Convicted robber Nirvair Lall killed his 'best friend' at a 'notorious' accident hotspot after a night out at Soho Tavern, in Hockley. The Christmas Day crash saw Singh crash into a tree after losing control of his Ford Fiesta.

He has been speeding in the moments before the collision. The 25-year-old managed to escape from the car after it flipped onto its side but his passenger Inderjot Singh suffered fatal injuries.

Lall - of Amberley Green, Great Barr - admitted causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed limit and was jailed for four years on Monday, November 11. He was also handed a seven-year driving ban.

Mark Plimmer

Hit-and-run driver Mark Plimmer killed a dad and injured two others in a Christmas Eve crash. He was speeding when he lost control of his Vauxhall Vectra on Uttoxeter Road in Draycott-in-the-Moors, Staffordshire, last year. Read the full story here.

Plimmer, 28, collided with a Mini Cooper and a Hyundai Tucson as the driver and passengers were about to get into it. After the collision, Plimmer fled the scene.

The defendant, of Blythe Bridge, Stoke-on-Trent, was convicted of death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 18 years behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday, September 23.
