Killer Whale Surfs Waves Along British Coast In Stunning Sea Photo

Surf is definitely up for this massive killer whale who was captured on camera off the coast of Britain.

The image was taken two miles off Foula in the Shetland Islands by amateur photographer John Lowrie Irvine.

The orca, which can weigh up to 5,600kg and grow to a length of 8.7m, looks like it is heading straight for the camera as it skims over the surface of the water.

Mr Irvine, a 50-year-old fisherman, captured the image on Tuesday. He usually heads out with his camera at this time of year to see the whales.

He said: “I just started taking shots. It was a complete fluke that I managed to get it just as it jumped out of the water.

“Orcas are always here at this time of year. I’ve always tried to get some pictures of them every year.

“I don’t claim to be an expert on orcas, I just enjoy watching them jump through the waves.”
