Killer whales give surfers a scare during Norway competition

The sight of two fins protruding from the water during a surf competition in Unstad, Norway, could’ve been cause for great alarm, but the animals in question were not every surfer’s nightmare, great white sharks, but orcas. Nevertheless, all surfers competing in the semi-finals stage of the Lofoten Masters made a speedy exit from the water. Edi Siswanto, a surf instructor from Bali, told Al Jazeera that surfing conditions in Norway could be “as good any in Bali” and that there was “no danger of shark attacks”. The Norwegian Orca Survey has since confirmed the intruders were two killer whales.
