Piers Morgan’s Killer Women is set to return to screens for a second series and once again the presenter is seeking out dangerous women in the world, this travelling to the US to meet five female murderers.

Each episode will focus on a different killer, as Morgan delves into their pasts in order to understand what drove them to commit such violent actions.

First up, is Rebecca Fenton who is imprisoned at Lowell Correctional Institution for the murder of her husband Larry, who was found dead in a pool of blood in their home.

Fenton still protests her innocence, claiming she had no reason to kill Larry, but unless she can clear her name she will remain in prison for the rest of her life.

On the surface Fenton is inscrutable, with an answer for everything, but as Morgan begins to learn more about her story, he discovers a compelling motive for murder – while divorce would have put an end to her extravagant lifestyle, murder means Fenton would become a rich woman.

Morgan even meets Rebecca’s biological mother, who gave her up for adoption when she was small. She admits to the host that she believes her daughter committed the crime.

Many will question the wisdom of allowing a commentator who’s known for his controversial views, particularly around issues like feminism tackle a program like this, and aspects of the show, like the meeting with Fenton’s mother may leave an unsavoury taste in some viewers’ mouths.

But whatever your opinions on Morgan, it cannot be denied that he’s a skilful, if inflammatory, interviewer and over the series proves himself to be adept at prising intriguing insights from these complex characters.

Killer Women with Piers Morgan airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
