Killers who shot a man in the face before going for chicken jailed for life

Two killers who gunned down a man as he played football before they went to get chicken and chips have been jailed for life.

Sharn Miles, 20, and Ty Blake, 19, shot James Teer, 20, in the face at point blank range with a shotgun in August 2019 in Birmingham.

He died at the scene, just yards from his front door, where he had been playing football with teenage friends. James was just weeks away from his 21st birthday.

CCTV showed the killers walking into a takeaway and ordering chicken and chips just 20 minutes after the brutal murder.

They were jailed for life today and must serve a minimum of 32 years.

Police tracked down Blake and Miles after finding a stolen BMW M Sport used in the drive-by shooting abandoned in Small Heath, Birmingham.

A blood-stained tissue was found inside which gave police a DNA hit on Blake. He was arrested six days later.

The 19-year-old, from Shustoke Road in Shard End, is believed to have cut his lip when the shotgun recoiled into his mouth, and he dabbed it with the tissue.

Detectives trawled through CCTV and mapped out how the pair’s BMW travelled several miles from Erdington to Miles’ home in Gowan Road, Alum Rock.

They were then able to trace the stolen car to its owner in Leicester and found that phone records showed that mobiles linked to Blake and Miles were active near where the car was taken from at the time.

Miles fled the UK via Dover but was arrested and returned to the UK. Blake was arrested at his home two days later, where the wooden butt of a shotgun and five cartridges were found.

Police also identified Lauren Malin, 20, from Community Close, Aldermoor Green, Coventry. She was involved with stealing the car and drove Blake from Coventry to Birmingham before the shooting.

Malin was cleared of James’ murder but convicted of burglary.
