The family life of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has taken another twist amid claims a secretive daughter may have been revealed to the world.

The country's tyrannical leader is extraordinarily clandestine about his family because of security concerns.

Those close to Kim rarely make public appearances, which means recent footage that potentially shows one of his children is even all the more intriguing.

Who is Kim Jong-un's daughter?

Kim is believed to have three children - one of whom is a girl, around the age of 10, thought to be called Kim Ju-ae.

Her name was revealed to the world by former NBA basketball star Dennis Rodman when he visited the hermit state in 2013.

It is thought that Kim has two other children, although their names are not known, and that Kim Ju-ae is the second oldest of the three.

Experts believe she appeared in a video earlier this month as part of North Korea's National Day celebrations.

The child was one of several performing a song for Kim and his wife, Ri Sol-ju.

One analyst wrote on the InDPRK blog that Ri paid special attention to the girl at the end of the show, indicating it could be Ju-ae.

When the other children crowd around Kim, full of excitement, the girl appears to be much calmer, suggesting it could be her father.

Who is Kim Jong-un's wife?

Despite being the wife of a world leader, very little is known about Ri Sol-ju.

Although she does accompany her husband in public appearances, these tend to be rare.

The speculation about her background varies, with several reports suggesting that she was a singer and that she has most likely changed her name.

She reportedly visited South Korea in 2005 as part of the North Korean cheerleading team during the Asian Athletics Championships.

A report by the BBC said she married Kim Jong-un in 2009, in a union arranged by his father, Kim Jong-il.

It has been speculated that Ri gave birth to a boy in 2010. Three years later, Rodman revealed the couple had had a girl, whose name is Kim Ju-ae. Rodman said they had a "beautiful family" and that Kim was a "good dad".

South Korean intelligence reported that Ri gave birth to a third child in February 2017.

Who are Kim Jong-un's family?

His younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, 35, is a politician and diplomat, and is the late Kim Jong-il's youngest child.

She is looked upon as a potential successor to her older brother.

She studied with her elder brothers at a school in Switzerland between 1996 and 2000 under an assumed name. She has a degree in computer science.

She has been a very public face for her brother's regime, and met then-US president Donald Trump during the 2018 Singapore Summit between the two nations.

Kim Jong-chul, Kim Jong-un's oldest brother, was passed over by their father, Kim Jong-il, when it came to deciding his successor as North Korean leader.

Kim Jong-chul has reportedly been spotted on several occasions at Eric Clapton concerts.

He reportedly has a quiet life in Pyongyang away from politics, playing guitar in a band.
