Next week’s highly-anticipated summit between North Korea and the United States was put back on the table after Kim Jong-un ‘begged’ Donald Trump for it to go ahead.

According to the President’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Trump had brought North Korea’s leader to his ‘hands and knees’ after cancelling the high-profile meeting.

Mr Giuliani said Trump’s tough line had forced Kim Jong-un to plead to reschedule their summit.

The former New York mayor said there was no choice but to cancel the June 12 summit after Kim insulted the US vice president and national security and threatened nuclear war.

Mr Giuliani said: ‘We said, ‘Well, we’re not going to have a summit under those circumstances.

‘Well, Kim Jong-un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it, which is exactly the position you want to put him in.’

The summit is now back on for next Tuesday in Singapore at a luxury resort on Sentosa Island.

The historic meeting will be held at the Capella Hotel, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted.

She said: ‘We thank our great Singaporean hosts for their hospitality.’

Trump is hoping to secure a nuclear deal with the North Koreans, seeking for Kim to give up his nuclear programme, though he stressed last week that the process would likely take longer than a single meeting.

Located a quarter of a mile off the coast of the city-state, Sentosa Island is known for its high-end beach hotels, golf courses and amusement parks.

A US advance team was spotted at the Capella Hotel last week meeting with North Korean officials in preparation for the summit.
