Kim Kardashian's sinks in her home have finally been explained

When it comes to truly extravagant homes, the Kardashian family is hard to beat. From the truly staggering art collection in Kylie Jenner’s house through to the family’s penchant for walk-in handbag closets, America's reality royals don't do things by halves.

While Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been relatively private about their minimalist abode, Kim recently invited Vogue into the ultra modern space for the magazine's 73 Questions video. But the video ended up leaving people with more questions than answers, the main question being: what is up with Kim Kardashian’s sink?

During the video, the Vogue camera dipped into Kim's bathroom for a quick, 5-second shot of her sinks, which appeared to be totally flat.

“Can someone PLEASE explain the sinks at kim & kanye’s house” one Twitter user asked.

It didn’t take long for others to respond:

One user tried to answer the question seriously: “Sink is a concave conical engraving into the marble with drainage hole about 10 inches from the faucet. You can see the drainage. It’s like a slide that gets more narrow as it approaches the drain.”

It turns out this was pretty much spot on, as Kim Kardashian eventually took to social media to explain. In an Instagram story, she mentioned that everybody seemed “a little bit confused” by the striking bathroom feature and launched what must be the very first celebrity sink tutorial.

She started, “So, the sinks. Kanye drew this.”

Kim continued, “Kanye, Axel Vervoordt and Claudio Silvestrin all kind of did this sink.”

Vervoordt and Silvestrin are the celebrity interior designers who Kanye has worked closely with in the past, both known for their hyper minimalist style. Kim continued that they had made “eight versions of this prototype sink” before landing on this one, which means there are some even more impractical replica sinks out there.

Kim then revealed more sink insights: “You can put it on as high pressure as you want and no back splash will come up.”

She also revealed in her mini tour that they have a bathroom patio, a bathtub which fits all three of their children and that the ceiling of their toilet is a lightbox.

Kim described her and Kanye’s home as a “minimal monastery” and said they worked closely with Axel Vervoordt on it.

Vervoordt and Kanye appear to be friendly, as Kanye previously interviewed him on behalf of The Hollywood Reporter.

They spoke about the first time they met and Vervoordt reminisced, “You were so spontaneous, totally true and intense. Now we're working on a house together, and I've learned from you because you have great taste. We talk about things, we change things. That's what I like so much about you — I'm the same way — you've never arrived, you never are the best and you always want to do your best.”

Claudio Silvestrin, the other designer Kim mentioned in her Instagram story, also designed Kanye West's 2007 loft in Soho, which had a similarly pared-back aesthetic.
