Kim Kardashian’s Karl Lagerfeld tribute criticised for not mentioning fashion legend's name: ‘This is not about you’

Kim Kardashian left fans fuming after failing to write out Karl Lagerfeld’s name in her Instagram tribute to the late fashion icon who died on Tuesday, aged 85.

House of Chanel announced the passing of the Creative Director in a statement which described him as an “extraordinary creative individual” with a “prolific creative mind”.

A slew of celebrities paid touching tributes online as they shared photos and memories of their friendships with the icon.

Kardashian posted a selection of images on Instagram including one of Lagerfeld photographing her while pregnant and another of them posing with her husband Kanye West.

She captioned the images: “We lost a true legend!!!! You were such an inspiration to the world! You shot my first fashion shoot and I was so nervous to work with such an icon! The world is so much chicer because you existed!

“I am beyond honoured to have met you and had the opportunity to work with you. You are so loved and will be so missed.”

But the heartfelt tribute was condemned by many who accused Kardashian of making the post about herself.

“Notice how the entire caption is about her even tho the poor guy has just passed away?” commented one user.

Another wrote: “No mention of his name. THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU @kimkardashian.”

A third posted: “But Kim’s picture series looks like she just uploaded pictures centering herself! R.I.P. to the great soul.”

Another suggested she “should change her name to me just me (sic).”

But others jumped to defend her in the wake of the backlash with one posting: “What’s up with all the hate? She probably didn’t have any pictures of him and posted what she had. Why would she have pictures of him when she was the subject of the photo shoot?”

Another wrote: “She’s sharing pictures of them together you idiot ...that’s what most people do when they know someone who died.”

Kardashian was first shot by Lagerfeld while pregnant with her daughter North in 2013. She famously admitted to crying atfer failing to receive a Chanel purse from Lagerfeld when the shoot wrapped. The pair also worked together on a shoot with Kardashian's husband Kanye West in 2016.

Lagerfeld commented on the armed robbery at her Paris hotel in October 2016, telling reporters: “If you’re that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net. You cannot display your wealth and be surprised that some people want to share it with you.”

Naomi Campbell paid tribute, thanking Lagerfeld for “taking the chance on a 16-year-old girl from South London” while Lily Allen credited him with making her “feel like a princess”.

Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung and Bella and Gigi Hadid also posted tributes to the fashion powerhouse.
