Stars including Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and J.K Rowling have been named as the most influential on the internet in a new list by Time Magazine.

The annual roundup of high profile people who make a global impact through their social media includes a host of big name stars as well as political activists and web moguls.

Queen of reality television, Kardashian, certainly isn’t a surprise addition to this year’s list thanks to her “revamped” online presence following her robbery in Paris last year.

Time singles her out for relaunching herself on social media since last October “emphasizing family photos over flashy baubles.”

Kardahsian has more than 100 million followers on Instagram, which has seen a steady growth, despite her “more restrained approach.”

Rihanna has been lauded for her “fearless” approach to using social, creating her own memes and jumping into the comments on her own Instagram.

Harry Potter author Rowling’s main sphere of influence is on Twitter and has become a “fierce critic of global populism.”

Time praises her for her ability to “smack down” public figures such as Donald Trump and Nigel Farage, with one response to the US President’s tweet gaining more retweets than the original.

Model and social media favourite Chrissy Teigan also makes the list, thanks to her ability to “bridge the celebrity-civilian gap” through her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

She is also singled out for her ability to be open and honest about her life and struggles with postpartum depression.

Pop star Katy Perry also make the list following her 96-hour livestream on YouTube to promote new album, Witness.

In the video, the singer underwent therapy, cried openly and even slept while the world tuned in to watch.

Others to make the list include Chance the Rapper, Ariel Martin, beauty blogger Huda Kattan, model Gigi Gorgeous and Syrian refugee Bana Alabed.
