Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian has revealed that she was given a hologram of her late father for her 40th birthday.

Days after she received criticism for a series of tweets flaunting a lavish family holiday to a private island, the reality star shared even more intimate details about her birthday on Instagram on Thursday (October 29).

Kim revealed that her husband Kanye West had commissioned a hologram video of her dad Robert Kardashian some 17 years after he died from complications of esophageal cancer.

Sharing her "hologram from heaven" on Instagram, Kim wrote: "For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime. A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad.

"It is so lifelike and we watched it over and over, filled with lots so tears and emotion. I can't even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together.

"Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime."

Kim and Kanye went through a very public rough patch in their marriage earlier this year, when she urged the public to show her family "the compassion and empathy" they needed.

This grand gesture from Kim's husband comes just one day after the family revealed that Khloe Kardashian privately battled COVID-19. Fans of their reality show can see her struggle play out on this week's KUWTK episode.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians will be streaming the full episode with Khloe's COVID-19 diagnosis on Friday (October 30) on hayu and hayu on NOW TV in the UK, while the show airs on E! in the US.
