Kimberley Walsh will get the opportunity to show off her acting chops some more later this year, after signing on for Channel 4's Ackley Bridge.

The Girls Aloud singer is guest-starring in the second series of the drama as Claire Butterworth, the ex-wife of Paul Nicholls' character Steve.

Claire makes her presence known following Mandy (Jo Joyner) and Steve's split and she "jumps at the chance to get her claws back into Steve".

"It was so much fun appearing as Claire in Ackley Bridge," Kimberley said. "It's such a fantastic show with a brilliant cast, so it was an honour to be part of it!

"Claire is quite different to other characters I've played in the past. She is sassy and strong and comes to blows a few times with Mandy, which was really fun to play.

"It was great fun working with Jo Joyner and Paul Nicholls on this storyline."

Last year, Kimberley appeared on Disney musical drama The Lodge.

Also confirmed for the second series of Ackley Bridge is Vicky Entwistle, known for playing Janice Battersby on Coronation Street. Entwistle will be guest-starring as Sandra Turner.

"I am thrilled to be joining the very talented cast of Ackley Bridge and look forward to watching how everything unfolds," she said. "I had a great time filming with a wonderful bunch of people."

Ackley Bridge will return to Channel 4 later this year.
