King Charles 'desperate' to see Archie and Lilibet as 'life is too short'
King Charles is reportedly keen on organising a Royal Family gathering at Balmoral, hoping to reconnect with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet.
The monarch, who has seen little of his grandchildren since their birth, is believed to be looking for an opportunity to bond with them.
A source close to the Royal Family told Page Six: "I can see Charles desperately wanting to see the children, and extending this olive branch to Meghan and Harry.
"He may decide that life is just too short. Balmoral is truly the perfect, restful place for a reunion. If he does issue an invite, then Harry and Meghan should surely agree to the visit."
Harry and Meghan have made few trips back to the UK following their departure from Royal duties in 2020, with their children visiting only once during the Platinum Jubilee.
Meghan last visited the UK for the Queen's state funeral in September 2022 but chose not to attend the Coronation in May 2023, the Mirror reports.
Since their controversial decision to step back from royal duties, Harry and Meghan have made a series of explosive claims about life within the monarchy in high-profile interviews, including with Oprah Winfrey, and in their hard-hitting Netflix docuseries.
Despite the ongoing tensions, Harry has shown a desire to mend bridges with his family, particularly after learning of Prince Charles and Kate Middleton's cancer battles. However, his wife understandably holds more reservations.
The Sussexes remain settled in Montecito, California, having been asked to leave their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, last year.
Despite the ongoing rift between the royals and the Sussexes following their departure from royal duties, Harry flew solo to the UK for a clandestine meeting with his father in February once news of his illness broke.
Although the private meeting at Clarence House was brief, lasting only half an hour, it sparked hopes of further family reunions this year.
During a chat on Good Morning America following his visit, Prince Harry revealed his plans to return to the UK for work commitments and expressed a desire to meet with his father whenever possible.
A service at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8, celebrating a decade of the Invictus Games, could potentially be the reason for Harry and Meghan's next visit to London. There are high hopes that their children, Archie and Lilibet, might join them.
As per a report from New magazine, an anonymous source unveiled plans for a secret family gathering in the UK on Archie's fifth birthday, May 6; with intentions for the family to jet in privately the following day and sit tight at an undisclosed location.
However, Meghan is apparently plagued by concerns over her children's safety, as the insider stated: "It's now got to the point where Meghan doesn't want to come to the UK with the children.
"She just doesn't feel safe. The situation is now about whether the family should attend with increased security or Harry should go it alone."
