Over 18 million viewers watched King Charles III's Coronation across all channels in the UK on Saturday.

The ceremony, which saw the King and Queen Camilla crowned, was broadcast simultaneously across several channels between 11:00 and 13:00 BST.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on September 8, Charles then took on the role of Monarch, with the Coronation acting as the symbolic event.

Coverage on BBC One peaked at 13.4 million and the BBC Two accessible signed version of the coronation peaked at 1.7 million, according to Variety.

Charlotte Moore, chief content officer for the BBC, said in a statement: "The BBC brought people across the UK together to share a once in a generation event with over 14 million watching the King being crowned live."

She added: "I'm proud of the unique and special role the BBC plays in delivering audiences moments of such huge historical significance and the celebrations continue with our Coronation Concert tonight."

ITV reported an average of 3.3 million viewers watched their coverage and Sky's coverage peaked at 800,000 across Sky News and Sky Showcase and Channel 4 and Channel 5 both opted out of airing the King's Coronation.

It is the most-watched event so far in 2023.

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral was watched by around 37.5 million viewers in the UK on September 19 2022.

More than 50 UK channels broadcast the service, and according to Deadline, around 4 billion people across the world tuned in to say goodbye to Her Majesty.

King Charles III paid a moving tribute to his late mother at the time, which read: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother."
