A new waxwork of King Charles has been commissioned by Madame Tussauds ahead of his coronation in May.

The new figure is soon to be unveiled at the Blackpool branch of the museum, where it will stand alongside waxworks of the Prince and Princess of Wales and the late Queen.

The King’s likeness will be dressed in a pinstripe grey suit when it is revealed in May.

Kyle Woodcock, Senior Attractions Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool, said: “A team of the most skilled, artistic and passionate people around the world are involved in making the perfect wax figure and attention to detail is key.

“The eyes are hand painted and every tiny detail is duplicated including using fine red silk threads as the veins in the whites of the eyes.”

He added:  “We couldn’t think of a better time to unveil our new wax figure of the monarch and give royal fans the opportunity to have their picture taken with him.

“We are looking forward to giving King Charles III a royal welcome when his figure is officially unveiled at the start of May.”

It comes after the flagship museum in the capital unveiled a new Royal family experience in the build-up to the coronation on May 6.

The monarch’s London waxwork has been upgraded and re-dressed in anticipation of the first crowning of a sovereign in Britain in seven decades.

More than 140 hours were spent by the attraction’s wardrobe team to redress the King’s figure in an outfit that pays homage to his first ever state banquet after he ascended the throne.

The team worked with medal specialists as well as collectors to ensure that no detail went amiss, from his nine miniature medals and diamond Lesser George medal to the insignia of the Order of the Garter.

Meanwhile, the London  museum also opened The Royal Palace attraction, which allows guests to get a glimpse into Royal life in the historic coronation year.

As part of the changes, the waxwork of the late Queen Elizabeth II has been reunited with that of the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Their figures are joined by other historic members of the Royal family, including Queen Elizabeth I and Diana, the late Princess of Wales.

Also among the British Royal family figures are acting and sporting royalty, including Sir Mo Farah and Dame Judi Dench, whose figures have also had been redressed for the new experience.

Tim Waters, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “If you want to get close to the Royals and get a true sense of what it feels like to be part of the British monarchy, then this is a totally unparalleled experience.”

As part of the opening, which took place last week, the venue opened its doors to a pack of Corgis, in honour of the late Queen.

Mr Walter said: “We all know the place Corgis have in the heart of the Royal family, so it seemed only fitting that we invited these cheeky, charming canines for what was a ‘pawsome occasion’.”

“In a year that sees the official start of a new chapter in the history of the British monarchy, Madame Tussauds London is giving our guests the opportunity to get closer to t

he Royal family in a fun and immersive way that only we can offer,” he added.

Madame Tussauds sees more than 10 million guests visit every year to rub shoulders with intricately accurate waxwork figures of their favourite celebrities and heroes.
