A Kings Langley home cook will be battling it out to impress Gordon Ramsey on ITV’s Next Level Chef tonight.

Ian ‘Gold’ Golding has been “smashing it” on what ITV calls “the world’s toughest cooking competition”.

The new series sees 12 aspiring chefs compete in a 50-foot-tall three-storey kitchen.

Home cooks like Ian compete against professionals and social media chefs in three kitchens – from a basic basement level to a luxury top floor.

The winning competitor will take home a £100,000 prize and a year-long mentorship with Gordon Ramsey and his fellow judges Paul Ainsworth and Nyesha Arrington.

Among his competitors are accountants, veterans, models, corporate businesspeople, and a Paralympian.

Social media users have already commented on Ian’s strong performance so far, after the show premiered on January 11, ahead of his next appearance on ITV at 9pm tonight.

His chances are looking good as the consensus among viewers on Facebook is that he has “smashed it” and Ian himself has described the home cooks as “the dark horses of the competition”.

Speaking on the show concept, Gordon Ramsey said: “I think it's the first of its kind. And having been involved with many shows, from Hell’s Kitchen to MasterChef, this is a combination of everything that I've ever done in the last 15 years.”
