Kirkheaton fire latest as seven brave crews battle huge Huddersfield blaze

A large fire has broken out on a Huddersfield Street with more than ten fire engines attending.

A total of 12 fire trucks were seen on School Lane in Kirkheaton as the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service battle to bring the fire under control. Both ends of School Lane were closed to allow the firefighters to conduct their work.

According to the fire service, they were called to the scene at 12.33pm earlier this afternoon and crews attended from Huddersfield, Rastrick, Skelmanthorpe, Dewsbury, Mirfield, Featherstone and Otley. An aerial appliance was also used.

There were no reports of any injuries, although residents were asked to keep their windows and doors shut due to the heavy smoke.

A police van and an ambulance were also in attendance. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "We're currently in attendance at the scene of a fire at a building on School Lane in the Kirkheaton area of Huddersfield.

"We've got several crews in attendance - there are currently no reports of any injuries. Residents in the area are being asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the large amount of smoke in the air."
