Kit Harington Admits He 'Can't Watch' “House of the Dragon” – and Won't Even Watch “Game of Thrones ”for Several 'Years'

Harington said he wishes the team behind the prequel series "all the best" but admitted he'll likely never be among their viewership

House of the Dragon cannot count on Kit Harington to be a viewer.

The Game of Thrones alum, 37, admitted that he has not watched the prequel series as of yet, and he doesn't have plans to, as the Westeros wounds are still a bit too fresh.

"I just can't watch it," he told the Associated Press at the New York City premiere of Industry season 3. "I think it's just, for me, I spent too long there. And I wish them all the best and I hear it's wonderful and going really well, but I don't think I'll ever watch that show."

What's more, Harington said he doesn't think he'll watch Thrones again for "many years."

"It's taken a few years to put it in the rearview – I'm still unsure whether it is fully in the rearview mirror," he told AP of the eight-season series that concluded in 2019. "I think it takes a long time."

It's not necessarily shocking that Harington — who married Rose Leslie after meeting her on the show — isn't exactly eager to rewatch Game of Thrones, given that he was candid about not having seen the show's final season in the months after it had aired and his farewell to his character Jon Snow had been so emotional.

"I feel like my heart is breaking. I love this show more than, I think, anything," he told the cast and crew on his last day of filming in footage from the HBO documentary The Last Watch. "It has never been a job for me. It's been my life and this will always be the greatest thing I'll ever do and be a part of."

There was also the possibility that he would reprise the beloved role for a spinoff series about his character, but he confirmed that the spinoff is now "off the table" in April.

Harington told Screen Rant that the spinoff – which his costar Maisie Williams had told PEOPLE she "excited to see" — was "firmly on the shelf" because the team "couldn't find the right story to tell that we were excited about enough."

Harington is also not the only Game of Thrones alum to admit they haven't been able to watch the prequel series since its premiere in 2022.

In June, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, told PEOPLE she "still can't" watch the show. "I just don't know what it is. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd, I think," she said.

Like Harington, though, she said it's "absolutely amazing" that the spinoff has seen such success. "I really so fully support the entire thing and everyone who's made it and it's beautiful how successful it's been."
