Remember, remember the fifth of November... well you know how it goes.

Guy Fawkes and Co's failed Gunpowder Plot is one of Britain's best-known tales – and building on that fabled history is BBC One's new upcoming thriller.

The explosive (ha!) three-part series Gunpowder boasts an impressive cast list with Game of Thrones' Kit Harington, Doctor Who's Mark Gatiss and Lord of the Rings' Liv Tyler already signed up to star.

It's set in 1605 and will see Harington putting his dream of going onto Sesame Street on hold to play Robert Catesby, the guy who put together the treasonous plan.

Gunpowder follows Catesby as he struggles as a catholic man in a protestant England, which was dragging him to the edge of financial, social and psychological ruin.

After the death of his wife and father, while looking after his young son, he begins recruiting friends and family to help him carry out the now infamous Gunpowder Plot.

Mark Gatiss plays Chief Robert Cecil, spymaster and head of torture to the catholics. Tyler meanwhile plays Catesby's cousin Anne Vaux, who is the one person worried about the whole idea.

The 17th-century thriller will delve into the history behind the evolution of the plot, the band of rogues who planned to carry it out, and the challenges they faced in making it happen.

With filming set to start any day now, there's no premiere date yet but we can make a pretty good guess as to when it might be...

Remember, remember the fifth of November, the Gunpowder treason and plot...
