In Klopp they (still) trust

In the end it was hard to spot many empty seats - some fans may have been stranded at home after the travel fiasco but the stadium in Kiev seemed full.

It certainly sounded full.

The Liverpool fans belted out their anthems, twirled their scarves and gave it their all.

The hour before kick-off was electric with expectation, the hours after it seemed like the plug had been pulled out.

Their team just couldn't deal with the regal and the ruthless sides of the mighty Real Madrid.

The sight of Loris Karius, Liverpool's 24-year-old keeper, almost inconsolable at the end after two mistakes that gifted the opposition two goals, will be one of the defining images of this final.

There were tears. He put his hands up and apologised to the fans.

The back half of this season has seen Karius cement his position as first choice No 1 at Anfield. That may change over the summer - other new faces will certainly arrive - the Guinean midfielder Naby Keita will be the next big name to arrive at Anfield.

He's unlikely to be the last.

Klopp is building a team that can play pulsating football, they are not yet champions but the potential is clearly there.

This final act of this season in Kiev is unlikely to deviate him from the project, not much has changed in that respect.
