KNEECAP respond to Oscars snub with three word statement
KNEECAP has missed out on a chance to walk the Oscar's red carpet. The semi-autobiographical film about the Belfast rap trio was in the shortlist running for International Feature Film and Best Original Song but did not make the final five.
The film is set in West Belfast in 2019 when fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of Naoise and Liam Óg, the needle drops on a hip-hop act like no other.
Starring the band’s Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Próvaí alongside Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender, KNEECAP create their own genre of Irish punk rap, melding the Irish and English language with electrifying energy.

Director Rich Peppiatt and producer Trevor Birney attended an Oscar nominations screening party in Madden’s Bar in Belfast on Thursday when the disappointing news was delivered.
Unable to attend the event in Belfast, the band joined the watch part via video call.
Responding to the news on social media, KNEECAP kept it short and sweet saying: "F*** the Oscars."
Despite the Oscar disappointment, the film dominated the British Independent Film Awards taking home the Best British Independent and six other major awards.
KNEECAP has also received six nominations at this year's BAFTA Awards and is in the running to take the 'Outstanding British Film' category.
