I knew Newcastle would sit up after seeing what 'unpredictable' talent did

Newcastle United youngsters knew Trevan Sanusi would get a chance to impress in pre-season because the 'unpredictable' winger has a 'really good' skillset.

That is the view of former Newcastle team-mate Michael Ndiweni following a memorable few months for Sanusi, who stepped up with a superb goal for England under-18s last week, after featuring in all of the Magpies' friendlies earlier this summer. There was certainly no chance that Newcastle were going to loan Sanusi out before the window shut last month as the 17-year-old continues to develop physically and tactically under the watchful eye of academy staff.

It is important to stress that Sanusi still has a lot to learn, and the youngster recognises that he has to improve every aspect of his game to take the next step, but Eddie Howe has highlighted how he has 'got something not a lot of players have' with his ability to 'do the unexpected' and beat a man with skill and deft touches rather than sheer pace. Ndiweni certainly took note of that during their time together following Sanusi's move from Birmingham City last summer.

"He is so unpredictable and that's what you want from a wide player," he told ChronicleLive. "It can take him past a lot of players.

"When I saw him last year, I knew he would soon be playing in pre-season friendlies for the first team and be involved because the skillset he has is really good. He's skilful, he can beat a man and he's got the quality to put good crosses in."
