It has been a rough few days for Harry Styles. Not only was he robbed at knifepoint while out in London over the weekend, but just hours later, he learned that his ex, Caroline Flack had died after taking her own life. The singer paid tribute to the TV personality on Tuesday by wearing a black ribbon—representing mourning—to the Brit Awards. Many, though, completely forgot that Harry and Caroline ever dated because it was so long ago, so, here's everything you need to know about Caroline and her relationship with Harry.
1. She was a TV personality.
Love Island fans will know Caroline Flack very well, as she was the host of the first five seasons of the popular British show.

The London-native started off her career as an actress, though she quickly switched over to reality TV, hosting shows like I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here NOW!, The X-Factor, and, of course, Love Island.
2. She met Harry on The X-Factor.
Of course, The X-Factor was where Caroline met Harry, when he was competing on the show back in 2010. Caroline later wrote in her autobiography, Storm in a C Cup, that it was very obvious that the singer liked her.
"I already knew that he had a crush on me, he’d made it pretty obvious," she wrote. "He’d said it in magazines and he’d said it to friends."
3. Their age difference and Harry's crazy fans broke them up.
The two started dating in 2011, but the relationship didn't last long. At the time, Harry was 17, and Caroline was 31 and when One Direction fans found out about the relationship, they did not react well.
"It began to go wrong when Harry was pictured coming out of my house one morning," Caroline wrote in her book. "And once that was out, it was open season." She started getting harassed by people everywhere she went. "After that anyone could say anything. In the street people started shouting at me 'pedophile' and ‘'pervert.'" When she started getting death threats from One Directioners, the two decided to part ways.
4. She was forced to step down from her hosting gig months before her death.
Over the past few months, Caroline has been in the media after she was accused of assaulting her boyfriend. Because of this, was forced to step down from her Love Island hosting gig and was set to stand trial next month.
On Saturday, Caroline was found dead in her London apartment, and her lawyer has since confirmed that she took her own life.
5. Harry paid tribute to her on Tuesday.
Though they only dated for a short while, it is suspected that Harry paid tribute to his late ex at the Brit Awards on Tuesday. The singer wore a black ribbon attached to his brown jacket to the event. The black ribbon symbolizes mourning and remembrance, so while Harry never confirmed if the ribbon was, in fact, for Caroline, the timing and meaning suggests that it was.
