Kristen Stewart has shared her thoughts on her latest movie, Elizabeth Banks' reboot of Charlie's Angels, being a major flop at the box office.

The film, which was released in the UK on November 29, made just $8.6 million in its opening weekend in the US and at present, the release has just about covered the cost of its production by making around $55.8 million worldwide.

Stewart, who stars alongside Naomi Scott and Ella Balinksa, has now addressed the disappointing performance, claiming it's "kind of hard to promote a movie like that."

Speaking to comicbook.com, she said: "Well, to be honest with you, I think if I had made a movie that wasn’t good and one that I wasn’t proud of and a lot of people saw it, I would be devastated.

"Luckily I’m not feeling gutted because I really am proud of the movie. And I think that the kind of the climate that we’re living in right now is polarising and it’s weird and it’s kind of hard to promote a movie like that.

"And I think trying to have a really complicated, overly politicised feminist conversation in a five minute TV interview about Charlie’s Angels… I’m like, 'Dude, we just wanted to have a good time.'

On the chances of there being a sequel, she added: "I’m bummed that we probably won’t make another one, but at the same time I’m really proud of the movie and I’m so happy that it exists and can live in the world.

“Because I think for a lot of people it’s still kind of important even in a very non-serious way."

Banks directed, acted in, produced and wrote the latest Charlie’s Angels reboot.

Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson are the original iconic Angels but millennials remember the early 2000s films starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.

Charlie's Angels is in cinemas now.
