Kyle Lowry tries to drive past Bucks' George Hill ... by dribbling between his legs

In the long history of the sport of basketball, there have always been two and only two options for getting past a defender. Left or right. Such tendency defines players from the NBA to pick-up games.

On Tuesday, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry tried to find a third way.

It did not go well.

What exactly was Kyle Lowry doing here?

Facing off with Milwaukee Bucks guard George Hill in a clash of the Eastern Conference’s top two teams, Lowry tried to do ... something.

And by something, we mean duck his head down, push it under Hill’s groin and dive forward. Yes, really.

That last shot of Raptors head coach Nick Nurse is all of us watching the replay. Did Lowry think Hill had repositioned himself? Was he just trying to move his head up and encounter unexpected resistance? Did he think he could actually dribble through his legs? He’d probably have more luck with that against Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The whole thing looks even more bizarre from the back.

Lowry was assessed an offensive foul for his unusual move, which didn’t help the Raptors in an eventual 108-97 loss that reminded us yet again the Bucks are a terrifying machine that leaves no margin for error.

Overall, Lowry had a night to forget with only 10 points on 2-of-12 shooting with six assists, four rebounds, four turnovers and five personal fouls.

However, at the very least, Lowry can say he tried something legitimately new on Tuesday at the Scotiabank Arena. The Raptors might need more of that spirit — but not the move — if they face Milwaukee in the NBA playoffs.
