Beauty mogul Kylie Jenner has responded to claims that she ‘refused’ to tag a Black-owned fashion brand in a recent Instagram post, subsequently tagging British-based LoudBrand Studios and adding that the claims were “completely false.”

Yesterday, Jenner shared a picture of herself wearing a striking brown and orange dress in the midst of a desert landscape.

The star is currently on holiday with friends including Fai Khadra and her daughter Stormi Webster, though she has kept the striking destination a secret.

Jenner was called out by a Twitter user who shared screenshots of Jenner’s picture, the brand’s official Instagram account and the dress in question. The user wrote: “Kylie Jenner is refusing to tag the designer of the dress she just posted, which is a black owned brand, and now limiting her comments. @LoudBrndStudios is the designer!”

The user also claimed Jenner was “deleting comments tagging the brand” and responded to criticism that Jenner didn’t need to tag the brand, as she may have purchased it. Celebrities and influencers are held to strict social media guidelines in the US and are legally required to disclose if they have been paid to promote a product or gifted/loaned one.

The tweet has garnered over 133k likes and 52.3k retweets and comments at the time of publication. Other users also urged Jenner to tag Black-owned fashion brands in the future, as she would be giving them exposure by introducing them to her millions of followers.

Jenner has an Instagram following of 184 million and according to a recent survey by social media analysts Hopper HQ, a single sponsored post on Jenner’s account is estimated to cost a brand as much as $986,000.

Jenner retweeted the claim and called it “a reach”, saying: “Why would I ever REFUSE to tag a brand and block comments. this is completely false. I think this brand is amazing and I wanted to show support and will continue to do so."

She also tagged LoudBrand Studios’ official Twitter handle in the same tweet and posted an Instagram story of herself in the dress, tagging the brand (though the white text was difficult to read against a grey background). Jenner also tagged LoudBrand Studios in her original controversial post.

LoudBrand Studios also thanked the fans, Kylie Jenner and her stylist Jill Jacobs yesterday on Twitter.

It wrote: “Hi guys!!!! We are so overwhelmed with the outpouring of love wow !!! We are so grateful for Jill and Kylie because this has really changed things for us so excited to be featured on her platform how amazing !!! Thank you so much Jill and Kylie”

Jenner responded and wrote, “love u guys!!!!”

Speaking to another fan on Twitter who asked Jenner to "please post" the names of Black-owned businesses that she buys from in the future, Jenner wrote: "I completely agree!!!!"

The dress has since sold out, however the brand added it would be doing a “very small restock.”
