Kylie Minogue and Dua Lipa have dropped “Real Groove (Studio 2054 Remix)”, an earth-shattering collab at the very tail-end of the hellscape known as 2020, and it couldn’t have come at a more pressing time.
There’s not really any way 2020 can be salvaged at this point, but Kylie and Dua – the queen and the princess of the gays, respectively – are giving it their best shot with their incredible new version of “Real Groove”.
The track was first released on Kylie’s critically-acclaimed fifteenth studio album Disco, released in November, and she later performed it with Dua Lipa on the live-streamed Studio 2054 concert.
Now, the pair have recorded an official version of the track, released on streaming platforms on New Year’s Eve (31 December), and we can already feel the pull of the dance floor – or, in this case, the living room floor.
Kylie Minogue and Dua Lipa “Real Groove” is everything we needed right now.
Gays across the world sat bolt upright in bed at midnight, feeling that something in the universe had shifted – and they were right, quickly finding the track nestled at the top of their Spotify releases.
The incredible “Real Groove (Studio 2054 Remix)” features added vocals from Dua Lipa along with added instrumentation and a slightly faster tempo – in short, it’s everything we needed to get through the final moments of this ceaselessly depressing year.
Kylie shared news of the collab on Twitter, writing: “DUA DUA DUA!” interspersed with heart emojis. “La Lipa joins me for a SUUUUPER SPECIAL Studio2054 remix of ‘Real Groove’
According to The Sun, Kylie and Dua first met in February of this year at the Brit Awards, and they struck up a friendship after Kylie appeared on Dua’s Studio 2054 livestream.
An insider said: “Kylie and Dua were both so delighted with the reaction to their performance together on Studio 2054 that they decided to work together again.
“They have been overwhelmed by all of the support they’ve had this year and wanted to put this out as a treat for their fans who have been sending them messages begging them to collaborate.”
Kylie has been a longtime LGBT+ icon and is widely loved in the community for her empowering and addictive brand of pop music.
She has also been an outspoken ally to the LGBT+ community throughout her career, and has been emboldened by support from her legions of queer fans for decades.
