Kylie Minogue explains that the INXS frontman Michael Hutchence “awakened [her] desire” during their three-year relationship, in this exclusive clip from a new documentary on the late musician.

Minogue features significantly in Mystify: Michael Hutchence, which explores the life of the singer/songwriter using home video footage, audio of Hutchence himself and narration from friends and family.

“I felt very safe with him, I felt very protected,” Minogue explains in the clip. “He definitely awakened my desire for other things in my world.”

“A lot of it was based around pleasure, let’s face it,” she jokes.

Hutchence himself is also overheard discussing Minogue in home video footage from their relationship. “Kylie’s got this real sweet, innocent image,” he says. “What the hell is she doing with me?”

Mystify: Michael Hutchence features previously unseen footage of the pair relaxing on a yacht and holidaying in Europe and Hong Kong in the early Nineties. at one point Minogue recalls Hutchence’s creative genius but also his extreme mood swings during their time together.

The film is directed by long-time INXS artistic collaborator Richard Lowenstein, who Hutchence once described in an interview as his best friend, before adding: “I don’t think he knows it.”

Mystify: Michael Hutchence is released in the UK on 18 October, with nationwide previews and a live Q&A in cinemas on 16 October. Tickets on sale now – mystifyfilm.co.uk
