Kylie Minogue’s summer playlist: the Aussie icon picks her summer bangers from Sabrina Carpenter to Charli XCX
If anybody knows their way around a summer anthem, it’s Kylie Minogue. The Australian pop icon has been a master of the form for decades. From the pumping disco of Better the Devil You Know and last year’s summer anthem Padam Padam, to the minimal techno beat of Slow (not to mention that swimming pool-based music video) the star has one of the best hit rates in the game.
And as the sun does its very best to keep its hat on, Kylie is gearing up for a huge summer show in one of London’s biggest parks. She plays BST Hyde Park on Saturday 13 July, with support from Marina, Anitta, Ella Henderson, ALTÉGO, and more.
Not content with being the queen of the summer sizzler, Kylie has also been in the wine biz since 2020; a lot of us spent lockdown necking her pink fizz and listening to that year’s album DISCO. No, really, it was a lot of us: according to Nielsen Holdings data Kylie’s prosecco rosé is the UK’s best selling branded ‘seccy.
In the run up to the big show, Kylie has put together a list of her favourite summer bangers – old and new – to soundtrack your pre-drinks. As you may imagine, there’s also a very specific drinks pairing recommendation to match for this playlist, inspired (of course) by the “beauty” of summer in the Italian town of Gambellara, where her prosecco is produced.
As well as some of this year’s biggest pop hits – from Charli XCX’s 360, to Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso – there’s also plenty more vintage, Italian-flavoured classics in the mix: think, 1962’s bossa nova styled Italian pop hit Quando Quando Quando, and a choice cut from the soundtrack to Luca Guadagnino’s northern Italian romance film Call Me By Your Name.
“Summer in Italy is a beauty to behold and a love affair that you never want to end,” Kylie told the Standard. “The gentle breeze that rhythmically sways rows of elegant Cypress trees, as the air fills with that intoxicating Mediterranean blend of jasmine, citrus and lavender, the combination of which never fails to enchant.
“I’ve put together a playlist inspired by Italian summer, glamour, passion and celebration… with some surprises thrown in!” she said. Have a listen below.
