Morning Live presenter Kym Marsh has revealed the reason she has been absent from the BBC One show.

In June, the ex-Coronation Street star's father was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer owing to a delayed check-up due to the pandemic.

On Friday's edition of the daytime programme, co-host Gethin Jones checked in with Marsh in order to get an update on her dad's cancer treatment.

He said: "After taking a break following her dad's diagnosis with prostate cancer, we're checking in with Kym today as we hear how he's making great progress thanks to a so-called wonder drug."

Catching up with the presenter, Gethin added: "Before we chat to her live, she wanted to share with [viewers] the reason for her break."

Marsh explained: "You might have noticed I've not been around much since the end of July – well, there's been some very good reasons for that.

"I think it's fair to say the last few months have been ridiculously busy with one thing or another for me and my family."

Marsh also addressed her mental health and said she isn't putting demands on herself to return in a fuller capacity to the show.

"For now I'm just gonna take each day as it comes and not put any pressure on myself," she said.

Earlier this summer, the 45-year-old was also forced to pull out of Morning Live after testing positive for COVID-19.

As a result, Strictly Come Dancing's Janette Manrara has been stepping in for Marsh in recent weeks.

Morning Live airs Monday-Friday at 9.15am on BBC One and iPlayer.
