Talking to Prima Magazine, Marsh said: "They were well-clothed and fed, although they didn’t have any luxuries. Sometimes it was tricky getting money together for the week. When Emilie was a baby, my sister, Tracey, and I would sometimes go halves on a bag of nappies."
Marsh, who is set to star in the revival of Waterloo Road, added: "I’d also take the kids to Mum’s if we didn’t have enough money to top up the electric meter. Times were difficult, but we managed, and I made it work."
The former Hear'Say singer also discussed her marriage to soldier Scott Ratcliff who she wed in 2021: "As I’ve got older, it’s become clearer to me what I need from a partner and what I can give in return…Scott and I don’t have the luxury of living together full-time as he spends Monday to Friday in barracks. Every weekend he drives miles just to see me for two days."
Ratcliff is Marsh's third husband after she was previously married to fellow actors Jamie Lomas and Jack Ryder. She also has four children and two grandchildren.
Marsh was most recently seen on the twentieth season of Strictly Come Dancing where she was paired with Graziano Di Prima. She became the tenth celebrity to be eliminated from the show after losing a dance off to Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu.
She is set to star in the Waterloo Road revival alongside original stars Angela Griffin, Ryan Thomas and Katie Griffiths.
Waterloo Road premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on 3 January.
