Coronation Street's Kym Marshhas again opened up about living with anxiety, and how – at its peak – she thought she 'was going to die'.

Kym, who plays Michelle Connor in the soap, spoke to The Sun about her experience with anxiety and panic attacks, recalling her first attack.

'The first time it ever happened, I thought I was going to die – I actually thought I was going to die, and I was driving my car as well,' she said.

'It's a really frightening, really scary thing to experience.'

Kym went on to say that she now manages her anxiety by thinking of it 'as an old friend'.

'I know what's going to happen, I know I'm not going to die, I just know that it's going to come and go.

'When you learn to deal with it that way, it becomes manageable and once you start on that path, it tends to disappear quite quickly,' she explained.

Although she's now able to cope better with anxiety attacks, Kym revealed that it can sometimes be difficult for her to channel similar emotions when working, saying she doesn't 'dwell on those situations'.

'You do have to get yourself to those places. But again that is a case of mind over matter and you know that's not real, so mentally you have to tell yourself that it's not reality and try to get out of that as quickly as possible,' she said.

Kym has recently been teasing fans about her future on Coronation Street, confirming that she had renewed her contract back in May before later admitting that it may have been 'a red herring' – although now that Phelan's gone, we're hoping Michelle's in the clear...

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
