LA fire: Dramatic video shows rescue from high-rise blaze as officials report 8 injured, including 3 month old

Firefighters are working to rescue people inside a high-rise building in Los Angeles, where flames and black smoke billowed from a balcony and several blown-out windows on the building's sixth floor.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials say eight people, including a three-month-old, were "impacted" by the fire from smoke inhalation or other injuries. Officials could not confirm the condition of the child.

Another person is in "grave" condition. Six people were transported to area hospitals.

Firefighters are now combing for others remaining inside after battling down the fire, which Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas says is being considered "suspicious". The cause of the fire is under investigation.

More than 300 firefighters and four rescue helicopters were dispatched to the building this morning, making dramatic rescues as people were stranded on the building's roof. Firefighters were on the scene within minutes after the blaze broke out around 8.30am. Officials said the fire was "knocked down" by 10am.

A thick smear of smoke can be seen alongside the 25-story Barrington Plaza building on Wilshire Boulevard in Sawtelle, near Brentwood.

There were no sprinklers in the building to combat the fire, which spread from the sixth floor to the seventh.

Fire officials initially reported that an undetermined number of people may have jumped from the building to escape the fire. Two people were rescued by firefighter ladders.

The building also was the site of a fire in 2013, when flames ripped through the building's 13th floor, injuring several people and displacing dozens others.
