Labour’s Kim Leadbeater won the Batley and Spen by-election

Labour’s Kim Leadbeater has won the Batley and Spen by-election in a surprise victory following a dramatic campaign. She defeated her Conservative rival Ryan Stephenson, taking the seat by only 323 votes. The Tories have denied that former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s resignation following breaking social distancing rules had influenced the Labour Party’s by-election win. Left-wing veteran George Galloway, who targeted Muslim voters in the constituency, in a campaign to topple the Labour leader, finished third with 8,264 votes.
