Lads on tour should not go to China... at least, according to E4's new sitcom Gap Year.

Digital Spy has an exclusive preview of the opening scene from episode one – airing this Thursday (February 23) at 9pm.

Best mates Sean (Ade Oyefeso) and Dylan (Anders Hayward) are on their way to Beijing when they encounter spectacularly blunt travel agent Sam (Janeane Garofolo).

Gap Year is a new eight-part comedy drama that follows Dylan and Sean –two childhood friends who've drifted apart over the years – as they backpack across China.

Soon, they're joined on their travels by Greg (Tim Key) – who's trying to relive the highs of his own gap year from the late '90s – and two American students, May (Alice Lee) and Ashley (Brittney Wilson).

What starts out as a potentially disastrous holiday for all of them soon morphs into an unforgettable voyage of self-discovery, packed full of sun, sex and constant surprises...

Gap Year will also feature appearances from BAFTA winner Daniel Rigby as Greg's super-rich old school friend Jotty, plus Toast of London and Cold Feet's Robert Bathurst as debauched ex-pat Bertie.

The Wrong Mans and Plebs star Tom Basden created the series, with writers including Key and Babylon's Jonny Sweet.
