Lady Gaga to sing national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration as US president

Lady Gaga is set to sing the US national anthem at the swearing-in ceremony for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

The 34-year-old megastar will perform The Star-Spangled Banner at the 20 January inauguration as Biden succeeds Donald Trump as president and Harris takes up the position of vice president.

Variety reports that the line-up for the ceremony is also set to include Jennifer Lopez, while the Pledge of Allegiance will be lead by firefighter Andrea Hall.

The first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman will recite a poem, an invocation will be delivered by Father Leo O’Donovan and a benediction given by Reverend Dr Silvester Beaman.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, publicly backed Biden in the lead up to the presidential election. She spoke at a rally held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Democrat on the eve of the November election.

She had also donned some of her most iconic outfits in a video plea urging US citizens to vote.

On Biden's victory being called back in November, the emotional star posted a video to Instagram in which she said: "I hope that all the women know in this country there is a real, real reckoning, a real change. And I hope the people whose voices, who have been oppressed by power, I hope that you know your voices were heard.”

Biden's other famous supporters include John Legend, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande.

Wednesday saw Trump become the first president in US history to be impeached twice after the House of Representatives accused him of encouraging violence with his claims of election fraud.

Last week saw his supporters storm the Capitol building in a riot which resulted in five deaths.
