Lady Gaga has shrugged off reports that she is dating her A Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, slamming the rumours as “silly.”

Gaga and Cooper sparked speculation when they performed an intense duet of the film’s standout track Shallow at the Academy Awards ceremony in February, with many viewers noting their chemistry.

The singer, 33, called time on her engagement to talent agent Christian Carino shortly before the Oscars, and the rumours only intensified when Cooper split up with Irina Shayk in June.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey for Elle magazine, the Oscar winner praised Cooper as a “beautiful father” to his two-year-old daughter Lea, who he shares with Shayk, but admitted that their performance was “calculated” to make viewers “believe that [they] were in love.”

“Quite frankly, I think the press is very silly,” she told Winfrey. “I mean, we made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars.

“We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on.”

She went on to reveal that the pair “worked for days” to fine-tune and “orchestrate” the performance, telling Winfrey that they “mapped the whole thing out.”

“In truth, when we talked about it, we went, “Well I guess we did a good job!” she admitted.

Winfrey also told her interviewee that Cooper, who also directed the film, told her that “he never would have been able to look [Gaga] in the eye sitting at that piano” at the Oscars if the rumours had been true due to his “Catholic guilt.”

The full interview with Lady Gaga appears in the December issue of US Elle.
